writing part1 chart에서 The numbers of visitors from France and Spain ~~ 으로 고쳐주셨는데 number에 s가 붙은것은 France와 Spain두 나라의 visitors 의 수를 말했기 때문에 s가 붙은건가요?

원래는 The number of visitors from France was 100 (예제)/ 이렇게 the number 가 단수 (was) 로 받습니다. 하지만, 동시에 두 나라를 설명하고 싶을 때는 The numbers of visitors from France and Spain were 100 and 200 (예제) / 처럼 복수 (were) 로 받습니다.


첨삭받은 내용중에 Moving on to the proportion for Sweden, it started at 7% and increased continuously to 20% in 2010 after overtaking the proportion in Japain in 2000. 이 있는데, 여기에서 저는 of Sweden이라고 적었는데 for로 고쳐주셔서, 어떤 경우에 for, of, 그리고 밑에 in Japan처럼 in 그리고 때로는 on을 적는 경우도 있는데 어떻게 for of in on을 구분해야 하는지 궁금합니다.

몇가지 종류를 설명 드릴게요 ^^

number
- Use "the number of + countable noun (셀 수 있는 명사)
e.g. the number of visitors.


amount
- Use "the amount of + uncountable noun (셀 수 없는 명사)
e.g. the amount of money.


proportion
- Only use this to describe percentages (not numbers). (퍼센트 표시일 때만)
- Use "the proportion of + 명사 / the percentage of 명사
e.g. the proportion of people increased
eg. 20% of people have blue eyes. (사람들 중 20% 지칭)

==> 여기서는 보통 of 를 이용합니다. 정말로 그 퍼센트를 말하고 싶기 때문입니다.

단,

The percentage for / the proportion for
직접적인 그 % 나 비율에 포커스가 아닌, 그 % 를 지닌 “그룹을 보면” 이라는 뜻으로 말하고 싶을 때, 이용합니다.

따라서, Moving on to the proportion for Sweden, it started at 7% and increased.
스웨덴의 비율을 보면…. / 이라는 해석이 나오구요.

만일,
The proportion of Sweden in 2000 ended at 20% at the end of the period.
라는 문장도 나올 수 있습니다. 이유는 여기서 비율은 20%를 지칭하고 싶었기 때문입니다.

마지막으로

Figure 뒤에는 무조건 for 를 붙이면 됩니다.

the figure for visitors to the UK.
the figure for unemployment.
the figure for Canada rose to 10%.

여기서 figure of 를 쓰게 되면, figure 즉 모양, 형태를 의미하게 되므로 매우 어색한 표현이 됩니다.
Eg, the figure of Canada  “캐나다의 모양은” 이라는 해석입니다. ^^

추가적으로,
In/ on
In 은 나라나, 단체내에서 라고 할 때, 얘기 합니다.
On 을 쓸때에는 , 어느 카테고리상에서 를 얘기할 때 입니다.
Eg. The percentage in Japan was the highest.
The number of complaints on traffic noise accounted for 400 reported cases. (교통소음에 대한 불만 접수 수는 400개 케이스이었다)
