In many countries, more and more young people are leaving school but unable to find jobs. What problems do you think youth unemployment causes for individuals and society? What measures should be taken to reduce the level of unemployment among youngsters?

많은 국가에서 학교를 졸업하고도 일자리를 찾지 못하는 젊은이들이 점점 늘어나고 있습니다. 청년 실업은 개인과 사회에 어떤 문제를 일으킨다고 생각하나요? 청년 실업률을 낮추기 위해 어떤 조치를 취해야 할까요?

Problems caused by youth unemployment

1. Unemployed young people may suffer from financial hardship and low self-esteem. For example, those who remain jobless for a long time often depend on their parents and may develop depression or anxiety.

2. Youth unemployment can harm society as a whole. For example, it reduces tax revenue and may lead to higher crime rates, as some frustrated young people turn to illegal activities.

Measures to reduce youth unemployment

1. Governments should provide more vocational training that matches the needs of employers. For example, apprenticeship programmes can equip school leavers with practical skills in fields such as engineering and IT.

2. Companies could be encouraged to hire young people through financial incentives. For example, governments may offer tax reductions or subsidies to businesses that employ first-time job seekers.
