2026.08.06 Writing Task 2 기출문제

Some people believe that young people should follow the traditions of their society. Others, however, believe that young people should have the individual freedom to make their own choices. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

몇몇 사람들은 젊은 사람들이 사회의 전통을 따라야 한다고 생각합니다. 그러나 다른 사람들은 젊은이들이 자신의 선택을 할 수 있는 개인적인 자유를 가져야 한다고 생각합니다. 양측의 견해를 논하고 당신의 입장을 제시하세요.

Following traditions - young people should respect the customs of their society.

1. Traditions give young people a sense of identity and belonging. For example, taking part in family customs and local festivals helps them understand where they come from and strengthens their ties with older generations.

2. Many traditions carry practical wisdom that has been tested over generations. For example, customs concerning family responsibility and respect for the elderly help maintain social stability and support those who cannot look after themselves.

Individual freedom - young people should be free to make their own choices.

1. Young people are more likely to fulfil their potential when they can choose their own path. For example, those who select a career based on their own interests rather than family expectations tend to be more motivated and perform better.

2. Societies progress when young people are free to question established practices. For example, attitudes towards gender roles and education have improved largely because younger generations challenged the conventions they inherited.
